Kolhapuri mutton gravy…..Its a Maharashtrian recipe.It is really spicy and creamy in texture.It goes good with naan,roti.Whenever i am bored of regular mutton gravy i use to make spicy gravy.It taste heavenly.

This recipe looks dark color,as i added black sesame seeds.If we add white sesame seeds we will be getting orangish red color.

Ingredients

Mutton – 1/2 kg
Onion – 1 big chopped
Tomato – 2 medium chopped
Ginger garlic paste – 2 tsp
Red chilli powder -3 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1 tsp
Coriander leaves for garnishing
Oil – 5 tbsp

For grinding

Black sesame seeds – 1 tsp
Poppy seeds – 1 tsp
Onion – fried in oil 1/2 chopped
Coconut – 1/4 cup browned

For cooking mutton

Mutton – 1/2 kg
Water – 2 glass
Salt,Red chilli powder – 2 tsp
Ginger – thumb size chopped
Garlic – 3 big pods chopped

Step by step method to make Kolhapuri Mutton gravy

How to cook mutton

1.In a hawkins cooker add mutton,chopped ginger,chopped garlic,salt,water.red chilli powder.

2.When we hear first whistle reduce flame to medium and cook for about 15 min.

3.Switch off flame.Let pressure release by itself.Now check whether mutton is cooked if not add another half glass water and cook for another 10 min.

4.Basically cooking time varies depending on goat age(it is young or aged)

1.Add 1 tsp oil in kadai ,fry onion until brown

2.In same kadai fry coconut until brown,donot burn

3.In a mixie grind sasame seeds,poppy seeds,fried coconut,fried onion into fine paste

4.In a kadai add 5 tbsp oil,when oil gets hot add onion and saute until golden brown,then add ginger garlic paste to it

5.Saute until raw smell goes off,then add tomato and cook until tomato gets mashed.

6.Add red chilli powder,turmeric powder,grinded paste with 2 glass of water

7.Mix well,add cooked mutton to it.Let the whole mixture boil for 15 minutes.Keep stirring.Check for salt now and then add

8.Garnish with coriander leaves

9.Serve with roti,rice,naan

Note.

Cook mutton first and keep seperately

We can use either black or white sesame seeds.

Add water accordingly as we will be having some water with cooked mutton,

We can use either store bought fried onions too.
