Tomato Rice | How to make tomato rice recipe | Thakkali Sadam
I prepare tomato rice in two ways.I have posted first method sometime back and here is the link Tomato rice
This is the method my mom makes,but still i made some difference as per my taste.When my mom ask me what do you want for tomorrows lunch box without even thinking i will say tomato rice.I love to eat tomato rice all time.
We can have the tomato rice plain with some papads,raita or brinjal thokku.
Tomato – 3 big
Rice – 1 cup
Red chilli powder -1 tsp
Oil – 5 tsp
Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
Chana dal – 3 tsp
Curry leaves – 1 string
Bay leaf -2
Cloves – 2
Cardamom – 2
Star anis – 1 flower
Cinnamon stick – 1/4 inch
Step by step method to make Tomato rice
1.Cook rice first. Wash rice ,take 2 cup of water for 1 cup rice.Pressure cook rice for three whistles in medium flame .
2.Once gas gets released by itself transfer rice to a big bowl and let is cool down.This is to avoid sticking rice to each other
3.In a kadai add oil,toss mustard seeds, when mustard seeds start to splutter add chana dal to it.Cook in medium flame so that chana dal will cook thoroughly
4.Grind tomato.Add tomato paste when chana dal turns golden brown.Then add whole garam masala,curry leaves to it.
5.Cook tomato with lid, else tomato starts to splutter .
6.When tomato starts to get thick add red chilli powder,salt to cook for 3 min.
7.Now remove tomato paste from stove
8.Transfer it to rice and mix gently from bottom
9.Serve with raitha, brinjal thokku
1.My mother use to add lots of garlic in this rice.Add garlic ,onion after frying chana dal to get nice crunchy taste to rice
2.Add garam masala powder instead of whole garam masala.Add 1/4 tsp.
3.We can add chopped tomato instead of grinding.I like my tomato to be grinded
